Good contractors are focused on quality, but speed plays an important role in the process. Will strong building fasteners help installers get the job done quickly? Or are durable tools the better investment? Both represent an expense, but is one more valuable than the other? Should contractors be sure they are using top quality tools or insisting that well made fasteners are used?
Benefits of Long Lasting Building Fasteners
Investing in good quality fasteners will go far in ensuring that a structure or product will last. Fastener failure happens more often when screws, nails, bolts, washers and nuts are manufactured from weak materials or used in applications far beyond their limitations.
Stainless steel fasteners are preferred for marine applications or projects that are exposed to high levels of moisture and other corrosive liquids. But these fasteners also come at a premium cost. If the contractor or designer can arrange to have better quality fasteners specified, those costs will be covered. Otherwise, it may be up to them to determine which fasteners are used.
Maintenance contractors run into this situation on a regular basis. It is their job to ensure that machinery, equipment or structures are operating well. When a problem occurs and repairs are needed, the fasteners on hand are often used. Maintenance personnel may be responsible for ordering the stock fasteners and should be concerned with the quality of those components.

Benefits of Top Quality Tools
On the other hand, perhaps investing in better quality tools is more important. Good tools save time on repairs and installation. And since labor is often a large portion of any project, cutting back on the time spent makes good economic sense.
Good tools are also required when fastener failure has resulted in broken or jammed bolts and nuts. Skilled contractors are picky about the tools they use for a reason – because that equipment will help them to get the job done right the first time.
It’s actually best to use strong and durable building fasteners on any project. These components are worth the extra investment in almost every case. And although they may not help to get the job done faster, quality building fasteners always help the project to last longer. Well made tools are essential for experienced contractors and ensure the job is done in the fastest time possible.
