There are many things that contribute to the security of a home when you are designing or renovating one. Making sure that all these things are catered to when doing the design is central to making sure that the security of the home is well maintained. There are some things that might seem simple at first, but which always have this effect. For instance, something as simple as choosing the right fasteners for the job will go a long way in determining how safe the home will be. Doors that are fixed in place using high quality fasteners and hinges will not only last longer than the rest, but also provide more security. Some of the seemingly simple things you should never ignore include:

Using the correct fasteners

If you have to make a door to a house safer, you definitely need high quality fasteners such as titanium carriage bolts and Inconel hex tap bolts. However, this is not all. You also need to make sure that the hinges used in combination with the fasteners are also of the right quality. This is something that is normally very easy to overlook, in which case you stand to end up with a low quality door that doesn’t work as well as it should.

Why this is important

In order to figure out why this is so critical, you only need to think of the structure of a standard door and how the hinges fit in it. When you have a door that has low quality hinges and fasteners, these areas will become the weak spot in the system. If the door is kicked in, for instance, the hinges may end up giving in far too quickly, and this in turn means that breaking into the house will be much easier.
This is why most experts will recommend that you spend enough time looking at all the different options you have as far as hinges and fasteners are concerned, so that you don’t end up with low quality ones.

The variables that help you choose the best

When choosing the hinge type and design, there are a number of things you should use to determine what to get including:

  • Whether the doors and hinges will need repeated opening and closing. If you are going to use them in a commercial facility, for instance, you should ensure that they are designed to endure such treatment.
  • The weight they need to support. When you have a very heavy door and a hinge or fasteners that can’t bear this weight, they will simply break with minimal application of force.
  • What environment will they be exposed to? Environments that might corrode or otherwise damage the fasteners or hinges on a door often require the use of special types of fasteners and hinges.

As you can see, picking the best hinges and fasteners for your home or office door is not a simple matter of picking the products at random. In many case, you need to make the decision in a painstaking manner to get the best.
